As part of our Silicon Technologies group, you'll help design and manufacture our next-generation, high-performance, power-efficient processor, system-on-chip (SoC). You'll ensure Apple products and services can seamlessly and efficiently handle the tasks that make them beloved by millions. Joining this group means you'll be responsible for crafting and building the technology that fuels Apple's devices. Together, you and your team will enable our customers to do all the things they love with their devices.We are a small, productive team of passionate engineers building the infrastructure to validate the very wide range of Apple-designed silicon devices that power the iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, and more. We collaborate with electronic engineers to build mechanical fixtures for innovative silicon packages, including sockets, thermal stations, and automated chip testers. Our silicon characterization infrastructure enables our silicon engineering team to produce world-class silicon on a tight schedule.We are looking for an expert thermal engineer to own the design, development, and validation of thermal solutions used for silicon characterization. Key Qualifications

• Hands-on thermal-design experience in electronics.
• Experience designing, simulating, and validating thermal designs for high-powered silicon devices with hotspots is required
• Intimate solid understanding of key thermal technologies required: heat sinks, heat pipes, vapor chambers; TIM materials; chillers and thermoelectric heads; fans
• Extensive thermal simulation experience using Ansys Icepak is required
• Experience with TIM selection for various environments is required
• Experience selecting fans using CFD models is required
• Understanding of PCB thermal modeling is required
• Experience with high-speed, high-pin-count, high-power sockets is preferred
• Lab experience with TTVs, thermocouples, IR camera, stroboscopes, DAQ desired
• 3D CAD experience required, NX preferred
• Subject area in GD&T practices with close attention to datum establishment
• Background in SOC, flip chip, PMIC thermals is valuable
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills; ability to work well with management, team members and external vendors
• Teamwork: the candidate must be able to communicate well with multi-functional team members, be able to efficiently collaborate with team members to achieve project goals and contribute positively to the engineering community.
• Leadership: Must be able to confidently lead a multi-functional team of engineers to achieve ambitious project goals on an aggressive schedule
• Mentorship: You will be able to mentor team members technically and in working multi-functionally within the larger engineering community. Description - You will own the end-to-end design of thermal solutions for silicon validation- You will work with socket suppliers and thermal-solution suppliers to define requirements and develop technical specifications- You will lead external partners and projects to ensure interoperability of internal and external components and timely project completion- You will qualify socket thermal designs, thermal-solution suppliers, and fabricators- Work with multi-functional teams to ensure successful system integration- You will drive internal development methodology and processes and provide expert guidance on design and fabrication issues Education & Experience Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $161,000 and $278,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
