Job Description:

Duties:

Build systems for the analytical instrumentation market. Work in Research and Development designing products for

the Liquid Chromatography and Capillary Electrophoresis Markets. Lead in design controls of new products and work

with the R&D team to define innovate products. Work with application associates to identify new features and

requirements for products. Drive the definition of new designs from concept to manufacturing as well as support

existing products in the field through product support and manufacturing. Contribute to the technology planning

process and monitor scientific developments in research and associated Liquid Chromatography technology

developments. Maintain access to end user customers and information regarding customer needs, opinion and level of

satisfaction with products. Translate customer, marketing and business needs into User Needs and System

Requirements and create frameworks for tradeoff analysis. Plan for and ensure the provisioning of hardware and

software necessary for engineers and scientists to conduct studies and other integration level activities. Generate

system level requirement specifications based on the architectural decisions and technology choices available.

Oversee the build and integration of advanced breadboards and use the systems to provide capability analysis and

feedback to the R&D Team. Identify risks and make recommendations for risk response strategies and fallback plans.

Under the direction of the Project Manager, monitor and control prototype activities including instrument configuration,

technical problem reporting, verification and validation status, corrective action planning, status reporting, issue

closure. Responsible for the success of the overall Prototype build and monitoring activities for the development of

final test requirements to be passed onto manufacturing process support staff.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical, Bioinformatics, or

related field and 5 years of experience in job or working in a Research and Development team on New Product

Development within in Life Sciences, Medical Device or related industries.

OR

Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical, Bioinformatics, or

related field with 3 years of experience in job or working in a Research and Development team on New Product

Development within in Life Sciences, Medical Device or related industries.

Experience must include: Developing User Needs and System Requirements of new products, architecting instruments

in an R&D environment, and translating requirements into design strategies across multiple disciplines in R&D and

Manufacturing such as Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware and Software Engineering; Developing Life Cycle

documentation and design controls that establish product testing for Verification and Validation under auditable ISO

(International Organization for Standardization) and IVD (In Vitro Diagnostics) worldwide standards; Moving designs

and products from R&D to National and International Manufacturing sites while addressing DFx (Design For Test,

Design For Manufacturing, Design For Service, etc.) strategies to meet the needs of site requirements, vendor

requirements, shipping requirements, and End-Of-Life requirements; Leading the efforts of product Risk Management,

FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) and other analytical techniques to establish

safety and reliability in products shipped worldwide requiring application of quality and reliability standards and

working with Quality and Reliability Engineers to setup and perform life tests, ISTA (International Safe Transit

Association) tests, ISO61010/Machinery Directive tests, and meeting the requirements of those standards.
