Job Summary
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is primarily responsible for
providing specialized services to students in the PACE school who
have Individualized Education Plan (IEP) requirements for SLP
support. cial relationships and aid training as well as aid
supervision.
Overall this role is designed to ensure that all who participate in
the PACE programs are successful both from a student and staff
perspective and reinforce the mission, vision, values and
philosophy of the agency.
Essential Functions
The essential functions and duties of the Speech Language
Pathologist are as follows:
Direct Service Provide one-on-one instruction as well as small
group services which may involve elements of varying communication
methods for verbal and non-verbal students.
Assessments Conduct routine and specialized assessments of students
on the case load to ensure that they are receiving the appropriate
level of support and that their advancement is being tracked
accordingly.
IEP - Provide timely quarterly report card information and annual
IEP documentation which includes triennial assessments where
necessary. This includes the ongoing tracking of progress on goals
and the presentation of the IEP information at the official
meeting.
Team Development Work jointly in collaboration and support with the
classroom teacher, assigned occupational therapist, behavior
department, Education Director and Instructional Aides to develop a
coordinated, consistent and well aligned program.
Communication Provide clear and timely communication to all members
of the community which includes parents, teachers, therapist
colleagues, instructional aides and others that have direct
involvement with the student.
Training - Assist in developing the core training components of the
PACE educational model as it relates to the SLP field and ensure
that staff training is completed in the proper fashion. Develop
training modules that are informative and implementable with
components of feedback for tracking progress.
Strategic Initiatives - Pioneer new areas of teaching and industry
collaborations in improving the PACE model and generating high
credibility to the agency in the larger community.
Program Development Provide oversight on all the
educational/vocational program plans within the agency and
institute changes and improvements where necessary
Metrics Establish quality metrics that can adequately provide
quantifiable and qualified measurements of improvement in student
progress within the program.
Balanced Approach This is a challenging position which can be
emotionally draining and physically demanding while at the same
time requiring a creative spirit with a good grounding in theory
and an ability to work with a diverse group of students and peers.
Ability to maintain a positive outlook in the face of challenging
environment is critical for leadership in this role.
Leadership Provide supervisory oversight to instructional aid staff
when interacting within the classroom and during school activities.
Will be responsible for providing input on instructional aid
performance to the special education teachers on their team, on an
ongoing basis, for the yearly evaluations. Has authority to
discipline and provide guidance to the instructional aid staff as
needed and as required via PACE policy. Engages with the Special
Education teachers to ensure corrective actions are appropriate and
implemented.
Authority and Financial Responsibility
The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for presenting
proposals to the Education Director for any requests for program
enhancements that involve capital purchases such as new software
licenses or Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
devices.
Therapy Budget Responsible for maintaining a budget for routine
therapy expenses.
Physical Requirements
The Speech Language Pathologist must be able to comply and adhere
to the following physical requirements.
Pushing, Pulling and Lifting The individual must be able to lift
and or push at least 45lbs. in order to carry necessary
presentation materials or specialized equipment to external sites
on occasion.
Student Restraint The SLP must be able to properly demonstrate and
implement all physical restraints for behavior management crisis
when needed.
Driving The Education Director must be able to physically drive
from a variety of PACE locations.
Office Work This position requires that the SLP be able to conduct
a variety of office work.
Personal Requirements
Must have the ability to work independently and in cooperation with
others.
Must enjoy working with and relating to people effectively.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience
The candidate must possess the following minimum requirements for
consideration as a certified Speech Language Pathologist
Age 21 years of age or older
Education Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology
Certifications A valid California license from the Speech-Language
Pathology and Audiology Board as a Speech Pathologist.
Experience . At least 1 year of direct experience with individuals
in special education affected by severe Autism or similar
developmental disability.
Communication Skills - Excellent communication and interpersonal
skills, including speaking, writing, listening, motivating,
inspiring, collaborating, delegating. Self-starter and team
player.
Organizational Skills - Strong organizational skills with the
ability to track and follow-up with multiple, simultaneous
projects.
Technical Skills - Proficiency in understanding and utilizing
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) methods.
