Pay Frequency: Annual A. POSITION PURPOSE
This Program Director at Retail Management Institute (RMI) will be
responsible for the direction and oversight of RMI programs and
infrastructure. This role includes the management of our Student
association (RSSA), and providing support for managing Faculty and
Industry Advisory Boards; defining, building and supporting
internal business processes; defining, building and supporting
operating infrastructure such as our website, social media and
internal software tools; recruiting and hiring student interns; and
oversight and execution of the annual budget. This role includes
Program Management responsibilities of the Retail Management
Minor.
This role supports the Executive Director in strategic planning,
stewardship and external relations and reports directly to the
Executive Director.
The Program Director will join other Program Directors/Future hires
with responsibility for programs and operations including program
logistics, managing a budget, potentially supervising personnel,
and achieving the goals of the strategic plans. The team
environment is entrepreneurial and success requires excellent
teamwork and the willingness to collaborate with other team members
and the flexibility to move from project to project and manage
multiple projects.
Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, the Retail Management
Institute at Santa Clara University focuses on the intersection of
technology and retailing. We aim to create future leaders of the
retail industry who can leverage technology to enable new retail
business models and transform existing models. The RMI mission and
charter is university wide. We draw across all colleges in the
University to enroll -70+ undergraduate students in an
interdisciplinary retail minor that enables learning that blends
the best of academic research and practical experiential learning.
Our high performing students form an excellent pool of interns and
new hires for innovative retail organizations. Our award-winning
academic research faculty collaborate with a worldwide network of
academics who are interested in developing a deep understanding of
the economic and marketing issues related to retailing. We
selectively and carefully partner with innovative retailers,
retailing executives and technology leaders who are transforming
retailing to build deep relationships that are beneficial to our
students, retailers and our academic faculty. RMI is also an
ambassador on campus for Jesuit principles and in particular as
they relate to mindful consumption.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Enjoys working with students and creates a positive, inclusive,
teaching/learning experience in all areas of RMI activities.
People-person with a "roll up your sleeves" attitude that conveys
positivity and excitement. Energetic, very organized, responsive
and able to juggle many activities at once with extensive program
management experience. Proactively engages students, other center
team members, SCU faculty and staff, and RMI industry partners.
Very organized and able to set and track schedules and execute
against milestones and dead-lines. Strong teamwork skills, with the
ability to lead projects independently as well as play supporting
roles across the center, working closely with others within and
outside the Center, and able to manage operational tasks on an
ongoing basis. Excellent verbal and written communications skills,
with ability to communicate appropriately to different
constituencies, including students, parents, alumni, employers,
faculty, leadership, donors, etc. These communication skills need
to be proactive and capable of addressing the complex needs of
various consituents. Strong marketing and social media skills with
the ability to create and supervise social media and marketing
plans that are appropriate for different constituencies. Ability to
work closely with faculty to build the academic foundations that
will support the Center's experiential learning programs.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support and manage activities and programs
Oversight of RMI programs and activities Maintain and execute the
annual calendar of events Supervise the recruitment of students,
faculty and alumni to build and participate in new and existing
programs. Plan and organize events that engage all constituents
(students, alumni, friends, faculty, staff, donors, etc.) Create,
maintain and execute schedules for programs and activities Create
and implement program best practices Work with the Executive
Director/ Other Directors on connecting academic programs Provide
insights into the entrepreneurship minor expansion and management
Maintain budgetary documents for RMI programs
Connect and engage with student organizations
Form relationships with student clubs and organizations on campus
Identify and seize upon opportunities to engage students from all
disciplines Develop and coordinate immersion trips, field trips,
internships, mentorships Help build, recruit, evolve and manage the
student advisory board Create a vibrant, friendly and inclusive
student outreach and engagement program
Supervise student interns and the student leadership team
Help to recruit, interview and hire student interns Identify and
structure appropriate projects for students Oversee projects and
manage transitions between intern teams Provide a positive,
teaching/learning environment for student interns
Manage all operations and finances
Manage Student, Faculty and Industry Advisory Boards Identify and
work with student, staff and faculty coordinators Establish
schedules and manage logistics Creation of budget with Executive
Director Oversight, management and execution of budget Process
purchases and expenses Financial and program reporting
Co-ordinate all student internship programs
Maintain contact with Retail Industry partners for internships
Facilitate and organize internship fairs on campus. Co-ordinate
with external internship agencies for internship placements Provide
support to the Executive Director for the management and execution
of the Internship Class Designated as 198R
Retail Industry, Silicon Valley and Industry Engagement
Create and implement marketing plans that are appropriate for
different constituencies. Work with university groups to maintain a
vibrant, friendly and inclusive website presence Support student
interns in maintaining an active, student-focused social media
presence Identify and procure appropriate marketing items to
further the RMI Brand Establish and implement customized outreach
programs appropriate to each constituency (prospective students,
parents, current students, employers, alumni, donors, faculty,
staff, etc.) Provide a consistent positive interface to alumni,
parents, partners and friends

Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality
and services. Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops
and presents recommendations for improvement of established
processes and practices. Maintains contact with constituents and
solicits feedback for improved services. Maximizes productivity
through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance
initiatives. Researches and develops resources that create timely
and efficient workflow. Prepares progress reports; informs
supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures
completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.
Prepare and submit reports as requested and required. Develops and
implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit. Submits
and manages all reimbursement requests including on behalf of
executive director.
