Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is leading the transformation to cloud-native Big Data technologies in our hyper-scale, multi-tenant cloud, deployed in more than 20 regions worldwide. Were looking for an architect with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in Distributed Systems and highly available services in the domain of Big Data and Data Management, who can help in architecting new services that we are investing in, and in enhancing the current services in the said domain in areas of performance, resiliency, operability, and the like. At OCI, we have multiple Big Data services that are managed and cloud-native OCI Big Data Service (managed Apache Hadoop service), OCI Data Flow (fully-managed serverless Apache Spark offering), OCI Data Integration, OCI Streaming, OCI Data Catalog, Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW), among others. One service we are investing in is the OCI Data Lake service - this aims to provide a unifying abstraction for Data and Metadata, including fine grained authorization and ACID Transaction semantics, that the other Data services in OCI can uptake and integrate with to make the Data Lake a reality. Our customers would get a single pane of glass using which they would ingest and consume data from the Lake. From a technology perspective, these are greenfield opportunities with a huge amount of autonomy, leaving us free to build and innovate without being encumbered by legacy products and services. This is a great opportunity to join a team thats building a cloud-native services from scratch, and/or building innovative new features in the existing services. Responsibilities Work with other architects in the organization (immediate and outside) and be a partner to the senior leaders of the organization in scoping, defining, and shaping up of the services we are investing in Defend architecture(s) as and when needed in front of a broader architect community within OCI. Help other junior architects and engineers in doing the same Understand the OCI ecosystem and the broader Oracle ecosystem on the Big Data and Data management and retrieval aspects and innovate around how to bring these services together in a cohesive way that is also very easy to use Mentor junior architects and engineers and make them successful as well in their services deliverables Strive towards evangelizing the work the teams are doing in various industry-leading public forums, events and the like Experiment with the compute / storage / networking infrastructure as necessary and be able to recommend improvements in the way the service runs in various dimensions of performance, reliability, optimal cost, etc. The scale of data is at the petabyte level; a great emphasis will be on drawing the last ounce of performance out of the underlying hardware to minimize the total cost of ownership for our customers Desired Qualifications 14+ years software development experience Be recognized as a leader in their space of work Experience as an architect of products and services thats highly successful Deep understanding of how distributed resilient software is built and deployed Solid prior experience in building, and contributing to, distributed systems and data-intensive systems, in one or both the areas below: Open-source Big Data ecosystem (Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, Apache Ranger among others) Container runtimes - Docker, Kubernetes and the like Good software engineering skills: know how to write clean, testable, and maintainable code can do code reviews as needed and ensure high bar on code and other artifacts Interested in speaking about their work, internally and externally, or writing articles BS in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience. Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design with strong analytical and debugging skills Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc. As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. Suggest and justify product directions within approved directions. Define responsibilities for new projects and specifies, designs and develops software according to those specifications. Provide consultative software guidance and strategic direction associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems. Acknowledged expert/professional within company and/or industry nationally and internationally. Provides leadership in the development and strategic direction of new products, processes, techniques. Acts as primary consultant on large projects that effect the organization's long term objectives / strategy. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 10 more years of software engineering or related experience.
