Roche Sequencing Solutions in Santa Clara is developing a nanopore sequencing technology to improve the lives of people in a wide variety of applications, including the timely screening of newborns for diseases and the diagnosis of cancers and infectious diseases. Developing this unique platform requires expertise across a range of fields: Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Data Science, Information Theory, Biophysics, Biology, Chemistry, Protein Engineering, Digital and Analog Circuit Design, and Electrochemistry.We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Principal Wafer Integration Engineer in the Nanopore Platform Development group to collaborate with the research team to integrate and develop the wafer fabrication processes utilizing their background in MEMS and semiconductor processing to ensure a robust product line with special attention to design for manufacturability and testing in support of a high yielding line. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Development engineering interface with foundries for fabrication of structures used in nanopore sequencingCoordinate development activities in collaboration with the foundries and research teams to develop high yielding products with processes optimized and qualified for manufacturabilityMitigate MEMS and semiconductor device performance related challenges and drive failure analysisDevelop testing and characterization techniques, including final test, wafer probe development and surface analysis in collaboration with external testing vendorsDevelop and provide external transfer standards to suppliers (packages, documentation, and CCB for design changes) as required for Medical Device standardsPartner with supply chain and design engineering to develop appropriate supply and quality agreements and update as required throughout product lifecycleDrive continuous improvement plan (CIP), design for manufacturability (DFM) projects for quality improvement and cost reductionSupport field and internal investigationsDesign fabrication and process split experiments in support of yield, reliability, efficiency and quality improvements EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and REQUIREMENTS: BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical or a closely related engineering degree required) with minimum 10 years of experience, Masters with 8 years, and PhD with 3 years of experienceStrong semiconductor fabrication knowledge required, with special focus on MEMS related processesExperience with photolithography, vacuum and wet processing, wafer to wafer bonding, metallic thin films PVD and CMP a plusExperience with manufacturing and assembly of complex electro-mechanical devices, preferably of a microfluidic, biological lab-on-a-chip purpose a plusBackground in analyzing semiconductor device parametric data and understanding circuit design a plusAn understanding of electronic circuitry on glass, ceramic and silicon, TGV/TSV and other via and surface metallization's, explore other patterning approaches strongly preferredExperience or strong desire to learn statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data setsWillingness to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary environment within a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) groupExceptional oral and written communication skillsExceptional detail-oriented execution of job function requiredWillingness and ability to travel as neededCreative problem solving skills with an emphasis on product developmentAbility to work independently and with others as a teamRoche is an equal opportunity employer and strictly prohibits unlawful discrimination based upon an individual's race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, national origin/ancestry, age, mental/physical disability, medical condition, marital status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.If you have a disability and need an accommodation in connection with the on-line application process, please email us at US.Accommodation@ .This website contains information on products which is targeted to a wide range of audiences and could contain product details or information otherwise not accessible or valid in your country.
