Job Description:

Under occasional supervision, the Area Manager, Safety assists the SafetyManager with all operations related to the safety and health issues of associates, guests and Park property. Ensures compliance with environmental, fire and safety requirements established by the government and Park. Supervises and reviews the work of subordinate safety personnel. Performs related work as required.Assists Manager Safety & Security in supervising all phases of the Park's safety program, including fire prevention and protection, safety, first aid, environmental issues, and emergency communications.Supervises subordinate safety personnel; supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems; recommending and approving employee promotions, transfers and discipline, and recommending discharge. Reviews the work of subordinates for effectiveness; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers training, advice and assistance as needed.Assists in developing and implementing Park safety standard operating guidelines. Designs and conducts employee safety and rescue training sessions.Ensures that federal, state and local fire/safety laws, regulations, codes and standards are observed and that required records and reports are completed.Monitors and inspects rides, equipment, buildings and grounds as required; takes corrective action as necessary to enforce compliance.Oversees hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Assists in coordinating safety and emergency protocols with local emergency response agencies. Disseminates safety information and requirements to other Park departments as needed.Manages fire suppression and prevention activities. Assists outside inspectors and auditors as necessary; covers shift shortages for fire inspector. Responds to after-hours emergencies and incidents as required.Prepares, receives, reviews and/or processes various records and reports including incident and accident reports, fire reports, inspection reports, inspection/safety guidelines, health and sanitation reports, manifest reports, logs, various reports required by regulatory agencies, material safety data sheets, etc.Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other Park management staff and employees, subordinates, corporate personnel, guests, vendors, emergency response personnel, law enforcement personnel, insurance representatives, auditors, inspectors, various government agencies, hospital / health care personnel, etc.Assists in preparing and administering the department's annual budget.Assists in the handling of workers compensation claims, communicating with injured associates, workers compensation administrators and medical facilities to resolve claims; reviews reporting for accuracy and completeness.Administer and direct the company's Ride Safety Program. Conduct audits, investigate accidents and guest claims. Liason with state department, DOSH-Amusement Ride Unit, in reporting incidents and assisting them in their investigations and inspections.Adheres to and enforces all Cedar Fair and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Ability to read, write, speak and understand English at a level sufficient to conduct employee meetings; provide detailed direction to staff, guests, and vendors; and write policies, procedures, reports and other business related documents and correspondence.Other duties may be assigned.Bachelor's degrees or relevant experience required.EMT or RN Certification preferred.3-5 years of experience with Health, Safety, and Environmental or related fieldstrongly preferred.3-5 years of amusement park leadership experiences preferred.Ability to operate a vehicle and a variety of equipment such as a computer, copier, calculator, telephone, two-way radio, fax machine, and other general office equipment. Operates a fire truck, rescue truck, forklifts, ambulance, crane, scissor lift, hoists, air compressor, generators, fire suppression equipment, rescue / extrication equipment, gas detector, weather monitor, First Aid equipment, protective gear, etc., during emergency operations.Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations of environmental protection, safety issues and occupational health; working knowledge of building and fire codes, AQMD rules and OSHA regulations.Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs. Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.Valid Driver’s License
