Lead Product Manager, Enrollment & Communications

Company: Financial Engines
Location: Santa Clara
Posted on: May 3, 2021

Job Description:

At Edelman Financial Engines, we believe every hardworking American deserves to move their financial life forward, and we're growing our team so we can help more clients every day.

At Edelman Financial Engines (EFE), product managers use an agile management mindset to lead cross-functional teams called squads that own a product (like the Client Portal or Trading Platform) and have the skills necessary to deliver effective solutions for our financial planners and clients. "Effective solutions" are:

  • Valuable, meaning our planners and clients are better off using it and choose to adopt,
  • Viable, meaning the solution works within the constraints of the business,
  • Usable, meaning planners and clients can figure out how to use it, and
  • Feasible, meaning our engineers have the skills and technology to implement it.

The product manager is accountable for ensuring the solution is valuable and viable. Creative (meaning UXD, content strategy, and user research) is accountable for ensuring the solution is usable. And engineers are accountable for ensuring the solution is feasible.

Product managers need to lead their squads with a clear understanding of the business constraints - from marketing, the field, finance, legal, compliance, etc. They also must contribute a deep knowledge of our planners and/or clients as users, and the data about how those users engage with our products. Finally, product managers need to understand industry trends and the competitive landscape in our space.

Consistent innovation is the result of each member of the squad contributing their passion and ideas. Product managers should be collaborating closely with product designers, engineers, the field, marketing, and others to discover effective solutions, and then work together to deliver those solutions to the market.

At EFE, our goal is to empower squads to figure out the best solutions to the problems that need to be solved - and we also hold them accountable to the results. Shipping product is necessary, but not enough. We need product managers who are not afraid of signing up for results, even when that means they need the support of others to achieve them.

As a Lead Product Manager in charge of the Enrollment & Communications Squad, you'll be working with business, marketing, technology and operations and teams to shape an industry-leading Workplace Product to shape an industry-leading Workplace Product that brings together technology and financial planners.
