Applied Materials is working on a highly innovative
biotechnology development project in the field of Spatial Genomics
that involves the development of new assays and a high throughput
imaging instrument. The project team is a growing, dynamic, and
multidisciplinary group of scientists and engineers from fields of
optics, material science, biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics and
The individual will work on assay development and actively
participate in product development of a sophisticated bio-imaging
system. In this role, you will develop and execute cutting-edge
biochemical workflows, including handling and preparation of tissue
and cell samples, and analysis of the samples with the bio-imaging
system. You will also work side-by-side with a commercial lab
services organization to transfer the successfully developed and
validated workflow. The ideal candidate will be comfortable
executing multi-disciplinary studies and resolving technical
challenges to improve assay quality, reliability, and process
capability towards clear performance requirements. This requires
- Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team comprising
biologists, biochemists, bioinformaticians, hardware and software
engineers to develop pre and post-analytical processes and
- Work with the team to review, interpret, integrate and present
experimental data both internally and with our research
This position will report directly to the Director of Assay
Development in Santa Clara / Mountain View. The position is based
in Santa Clara / Mountain View and will require some travel.
Education and Experience:
Background in Life Sciences field with experience developing
biological assays and use of various detection technologies.
Working experience of at least 6 years (with a BS), at least 4
years (with a MS), or at least 2 years (with a PhD).
- Proficient in developing and executing procedures for
biological specimen handling and processing, testing, implementing
new methods, reporting and maintaining records.
- Analytical bioassay and method development experience (testing
of components and process modifications of biochemical
- Technical knowledge and applications across PCR, NGS, and other
- Experience in microscopy, various biological imaging
techniques, image processing, and data analysis is a plus.
- Work experience in the biotech, translational workflow
development, or pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
- Project Management - Skill and experience developing timelines
for projects and tracking projects, as well as managing multiple
stakeholders including external collaborators.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluent in English.
