Sr. UX Designer

Chegg's mission is to help students save time, save money, and get smarter in order to improve the overall return on educational investment.

This position will support our Learning Services Organization, focused on improving outcomes with personalized learning tools to empower students through their learning journey.

The Sr. Product Designer position will lead product design projects for our recently launched Uversity (www.chegg.com/uversity) product, a creator community for educators. Uversity is a platform for educators and faculty to share their education content with millions of learners on Chegg to help support their studies and enhance learner outcomes. The content will augment and enhance Chegg's existing Chegg Study service that already contains 59 million step-by-step solutions.

You will be responsible for designing the user experiences from discovery to delivery and will be evangelizing and representing the designs to the cross-functional team.

At Chegg, design plays a critical part in how we build products. We involve user researchers, content strategists, product leaders, learning designers, and engineers from the start of all projects. We make sure everyone is in constant communication with each other, and we collectively own the performance of our work.

Senior product designers do the following at Chegg:

* Deliver exceptional and holistic user experiences from initial concepts through iteration to final implementation demonstrating excellent system thinking, interaction and visual design skills. Work collaboratively with researchers, product managers, marketing, engineering, and lead other designers on the team.


* Influence product strategy and vision by partnering with research, product managers, and business leaders. The designer will have passion and a skill for creating data driven and user-centric product visions that help improve student and business outcomes. Strategize how to apply a shared long-term vision to real-world improvements and influence the roadmap across the product organizations.


* Drive thought leadership across the larger Chegg UX team. You should have an infections passion for UX, knowledge and willingness to experiment with a variety of UX process techniques. Raise the bar for quality of design.

Responsibilities:

* Develop a thorough understanding of our customers through research and tie their problems and needs to business impact.


* Influence product strategy and vision by partnering with research, product managers, and business leaders.


* Own and lead large or business-critical projects. Help define strategy, objectives and sets the vision for the end-to-end user experience. Propose project level milestones, look ahead for the entire project (beyond design) and forecast issues and roadblocks.


* Own new products or features that require multiple team members and can matrix manage others, incl. potentially outside design. Completely self-directed and can direct others; can operate with autonomy.


* Partner with product managers, engineers, user research, content strategists to define problems and goals, drive clarification of users' tasks and objectives, and launch new products and services.


* Develop user experience design concepts, wireframes, mockups, prototypes, usage scenarios, specifications, and other UX design deliverables for some of Chegg's highest priority initiatives.


* Develop expert-level knowledge of competitive and complementary products and bring new ideas to the team.


* Possess a solid understanding of current design patterns and guidelines for both mobile and web can create a compelling cross-device experience.


* Consistently seen as leader across the team and organization. Give guidance outside your sphere. Influence and inspire entire UX team. Mentor less experienced designers. Contribute to overall team culture.



Requirements

* 5+ years as a User Experience Designer, creating excellent experiences that delight the customer.


* Strong conceptual, visual, and analytics skills.


* Ability to think and design holistically to create a cohesive and coherent product experience.


* Excellent understanding of fundamental design principles.


* Proven leadership, organizational, and communication skills


* Proficiency in UX Design tools such as Sketch, Figma, or similar tools to create user interfaces.


* Experience with responsive designs for desktop-to-mobile products.


* Experience creating interactive prototypes using tools such as Invision, Figma


* Relentless attention to detail.


* Ability to manage projects autonomously.


* Ability to collaborate with and influence the larger team.



Preferred:

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in HCI, Design, or related field.


* Experience designing consumer-facing products.


* Experience in the field of education.


* Basic understanding of HTML/CSS
